How long does a rear window replacement take?
How long does a rear window replacement take?
Our expert technicians can replace your rear window in around 90 minutes. Once the job is finished, you can drive away immediately.
We recommend avoiding washing your car (by hand or drive-through car wash) or touching, pushing or putting any pressure on the new glass within 24 hours after replacement, as this may interfere with the adhesive setting process.
How much does a rear window replacement cost?
The cost of replacing a rear window varies depending on the make and model of your vehicle and whether you have insurance coverage for glass damage.
As Australia’s leading vehicle glass specialists, we work closely with most major insurance providers. If you are insured with glass cover and no excess, your repair or replacement will more than likely be at no cost to you. Plus, we often can even lodge the claim for you!

If your rear window shatters, you should:
- Avoid touching broken glass, since rear windows are typically tempered glass, which can shatter into sharp fragment.
- Carefully remove loose glass pieces if safe to do so. It is recommended to remove it with proper protective gear such as gloves, eye protection, and enclosed shoes, otherwise leave it to trained professionals.
- Cover the opening temporarily. Clear plastic is recommended instead of non-transparent items such as cardboard or bags, as it provides better weather protection and visibility.
- Book a rear windscreen replacement service as soon as possible.
Driving with a missing rear window can be unsafe and may expose the vehicle interior to weather and debris.
You might be able to drive with a broken rear windscreen—but it’s not recommended.
A damaged or missing rear window can reduce visibility, meaning you may not clearly see what’s behind you when changing lanes or braking. It can also make your car less safe, as loose glass can be hazardous and debris can enter the vehicle.
You’ll also notice more noise and airflow coming in from the back, which can be distracting while driving. And if the window is badly broken or missing, it leaves your car exposed to wind, rain, and debris, which can damage your interior and electrics.
If your rear window is badly damaged or affecting your view, it’s best to avoid driving and arrange a replacement as soon as possible.
Call us now for fast and professional rear window replacement and we’ll get you back on the road safely and quickly.
If your vehicle has a canopy or ute tray cover, the canopy glass replacement cost depends on a few factors such as:
- The size and shape of the canopy window
- Whether the glass is flat or curved
- The canopy brand and model
- Glass availability and fitting complexity
