Windscreen Replacement Across Australia

Trusted Experts in Windscreen Replacement
A cracked windscreen is always unexpected and often frustrating. Whether you have a cracked, broken or shattered windscreen, prompt replacement is necessary for your safety.
Your windscreen provides up to 30% of your vehicle’s structural strength, so it’s essential to have a replacement windscreen installed by an expert vehicle glass technician, using the appropriate tools, materials and process to ensure the new windscreen is fitted correctly and securely. Incorrect fitting could lead to water leaks, rust or whistling noises.
An O'Brien® AutoGlass takes windsreen replacements and safety seriously. With over 150 service locations and mobile options available across Australia, we make it easy for you to get professional help when you need it.

How long does a windscreen replacement take?
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
It takes around 90 minutes for our O’Brien technicians to replace a windscreen. After the new windscreen is in place, all you need to do is wait for 15 minutes and you can drive away with confidence.
If your vehicle has ADAS features, the forward-facing camera may need to be recalibrated after your windscreen is replaced, which takes additional time.
We recommend avoiding washing your car (by hand or drive-through car wash) or touching, pushing or putting any pressure on the new glass within the first 24 hours after replacement, as this may interfere with the adhesive setting process.

How much does a windscreen replacement cost?
The cost of replacing your windscreen will depend on several factors such as the vehicle make and model, if your vehicle has ADAS technology (which may mean a Cal-Tech® Recalibration will be required), and whether you have insurance coverage for glass damage.
As Australia’s leading vehicle glass specialists, we work closely with most major insurance providers. If you are insured with glass cover and no excess, your repair or replacement will more than likely be at no cost to you. Plus, we often can even lodge the claim for you!

When booking your windscreen replacement service, our expert consultants will ask you a few questions to accurately identify the exact windscreen required for your vehicle.
Every vehicle make and model windscreen can fit slightly differently. At O’Brien, we have the instructions for some of the newest vehicle makes and models on the market, so our expertly trained O’Brien AutoGlass technicians always know what to do.
Most manufacturers require vehicles with forward-facing cameras that form part of vehicle’s ADAS, such as automated braking, lane departure warnings, to be recalibrated following a windscreen replacement.
Our Cal-Tech® recalibration technology is specifically designed to check that, after your windscreen is replaced, the camera that looks through your windscreen is recalibrated and working properly before you leave. For your convenience, we can perform both a windscreen replacement and a Cal-Tech® Recalibration at the same time for most vehicles.
No, it shouldn’t – O’Brien can replace your windscreen and perform a recalibration for most vehicle types, meaning we can do it all in one visit.

We offer mobile windscreen replacement, so a technician may be able to come to you and get your car safely back on the road without disrupting your day. Availability may depend on your vehicle (e.g. ADAS technology) and timing.

An O'Brien® AutoGlass technician can replace your windscreen in around 90 minutes, or within a day if your vehicle requires ADAS recalibration. Choose O'Brien® to ensure the job is done right, so you can drive away with confidence and peace of mind.
We recommend replacing your windscreen if there is:
- a chip larger than an Australian $1 coin, or impeding the driver’s vision
- a crack extending more than 25mm length into the critical vision area (in front of the driver)
- any damage obstructing the driver’s line of sight
There may be other reasons why we recommend replacing your windscreen, and we can advise on this once we’ve done an inspection.
- The damage obstructs the driver’s line of sight if outside the CVA
- The inner layer of glass is damaged
- There are multiple chips or cracks (8 or more over windscreen / 3 or more in CVA)
- The windscreen has advanced driver assistance systems affected by the damage
- The chip is spreading or near the windscreen edge
An inspection by an O'Brien® AutoGlass expert is the best way to confirm. Call us today!
A Head-Up Display (HUD) is a feature in some vehicles that projects key driving information—such as speed or navigation—onto the windscreen, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road.
HUD systems rely on a specifically designed section of the windscreen to reflect the image clearly in front of the driver. Not all vehicles have a HUD, and some may have a HUD without advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
Yes, as long as the correct windscreen is installed and fitted properly, your HUD should display clearly. Vehicles with HUD require a specialised windscreen, and using the wrong type of glass can cause the display to appear blurry, faint, or duplicated (ghosting).
The HUD itself doesn’t require recalibration. However, if your vehicle also has ADAS, those systems may need recalibration after replacement. That’s why it’s important to have experienced technicians ensure the right glass is used to help maintain proper HUD visibility.
